NEW YORK TRIP


The Department of the Arts trip to New York is scheduled for October 23, 2009. The bus will leave from the College (8:00 am sharp) and return to the College (around 10:00 pm).
There are stops planned for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art and the Chelsea Art Galleries.
Tickets are available in the Department office. Please note the sooner you buy your ticket the less expensive.

WELCOME BACK!!!

Welcome back Music Students, and to all our new Music Students - welcome to Bucks. Our Fall, 2009 semester is starting off with a bang. We are welcoming 39 new Music Students.

So to all our new students, and you veteran students also, any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask. Our faculty and staff in the Hicks Art Office are here to help you, so don't be shy. Ask us - we like it!

To our new students - we hope you consider joining our Music Club. It is a great way to get to know your fellow musicians, share ideas and just have fun. More information on when and where the meetings will be held will be posted shortly. So check back frequently.

History of Jazz (MUSC106) will now be offered online. Jeff Baumeister will be the instructor.
This course will help you, the student, develop your listening and analytical skills to better understand and appreciate the rich diversity of styles found in Jazz.
This course will investigate social, political and cultural influences, representative composers, musical characteristics, compositional practices, and instrumental/vocal techniques associated with the development of Jazz.

Bensalem High School Annual Jazz Festival

This coming Friday two of our Faculty, John Sheridan and Jeff Baumeister, will participate in the Bensalem High School Annual Jazz Festival. They and some of our Music students will perform and help with the judging. Come on out and enjoy an evening of good music. Below are the particulars about this event.

Beginning at 6 PM on Friday, February 27th, the Bensalem High School Music Department will host their twenty-third annual JAZZ FESTIVAL in the auditorium at Bensalem High School, 4319 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem.

Admission… Adults: $8, Students and Senior Citizens: $6.

Performances by: Central Bucks South; Central Bucks West; Council Rock North; Neshaminy; Plymouth Whitemarsh; Souderton; St. Joe’s Prep; Upper Merion; and the Bensalem High School Jazz Big Band.

Scholarships - Scholarships and More Scholarships

Did you know that there is more than $100,000 in Scholarship money available this spring? Yes, there really is. But the DEADLINE is APRIL 1st, so if you are interested, you can't delay. For more information about eligibility requirements and for applications,visit www.bcccscholarships.com. You can also pick up forms in the Lobby of the Music Cottage. There you will find 2 brown envelopes with Scholarship Applications for Music and College Wide Scholarships. Below is a list of some of the College Wide Scholarships just to give you an idea. Don't be shy. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. We are here to help you succeed.

Alumni Association Completion Scholarship-$500 Awarded to a second year student who has accumulated at least 30 credits at BCCC and possesses a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Express Employment Professionals Scholarship-minimum $500
Awarded to a current BCCC student who majors in a program of study in one of the College’s six academic departments

Dr. James J. Linksz Presidential Scholarship-minimum $600
Awarded to a student currently matriculated at BCCC and who has demonstrated leadership ability.

Harry W. Fawkes Scholarship-minimum $500
Awarded to Bucks County high school graduates who reside in Bucks County, PA, and who intend to or are attending BCCC.

The Warwick Foundation Scholarship-12-credits tuition and fees
Awarded to a first-year student enrolled in one of BCCC’s six academic departments.

Bucks County Community College Foundation Director’s Endowment Fund-$1,000
Awarded to a student enrolled in one of BCCC’s six academic departments who possesses a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA.

Sarah Mildred Watkins Memorial Scholarship-minimum $250
Awarded to a student enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits in a program of study in BCCC’s Department of Business Studies. Students enrolled in BCCC’s Communications, Music or Media curriculum are also eligible to apply.

“Salute to Mothers” Scholarship-$500
Awarded to a female students who supports at least one child while attending BCCC.
